Joe Perry Lake, Bon Echo Provincial Park

If there is one thing about Ontario that we LOVE, it is the hundreds and hundreds of lakes.  For our first canoe trip in Canada, we chose to go to Bon Echo Provincial Park where there are canoe-in campsites on Joe Perry Lake.  To reserve a campsite, we called the Ontario Provincial Parks reservation phone number.  To reserve a canoe, we called Bon Echo Park directly. We were pretty sure that Timber would stay in the canoe (being a bit arthritic towards the end of his 11th year), but we reserved a campsite rather close to the canoe dock, just in case it was a wet, crazy ride.  Timber was a complete natural in the canoe and was happy to drink out of the lake as we paddled along:  so cute!  We arrived at our site (#501) without mishap, unloaded the canoe, set up camp, and headed out for some practice paddling to a sandy beach across the way. We had warm/cool cloudy weather for the overnight trip, but it didn’t rain and the bugs were quite tolerable (with DEET).  The trip was a success and we are planning our next one, complete with a few portages, as soon as possible!
